ACUTE MOUNTAIN SICKNESS
is most common form of altitude illnes.in its mild form,it feel like a hangover,AMS often occur around 8000feet(2,450m)or higher but can occur even in lower attitude.the most common syptom is headache that respond to the simple pain medicine,such as asprine, acetaminophen(paratemal),or ibuphrofen. in addition,at lest one of the following syptoms is present:nausea,lack of appetite,sleeplessness,or malaise(not feeling well in vague way and not having enough enegy)AMS comes one three days after arrival at atitude and lasts about the same time,especially if the sleeping attitude is not raised.although not serious by itself it can progress to the more ominous moderate form.when experience the moderate form of altitudeness the victim usually vomit a time or two,has headache that cannot be relieved by usually pain medicines,but he or she ca be very short of breath mild exertion after mild or moderate AMS resolves futher ascent is possible.

SEVERAL AMS
its characterized by altered balance and muscular coordination(called ataxia by cognoscenti and those clinically inclined)this severe AMS and may represent earliest stage of its progression to a cerebral edema measure it is by tandem walking test, also called the drunk test or the state trooper test the victim my fumble , show poor coordination and experience and altered mental state in which he or she is not thinking clearly and seem anware of surroundings and external event.after severe AMS, futher ascent is not advised unless there are options for easy and rapid descent should sytoptoms recur
if there is no other syptom if its difficult to distinguish severe AMS from fatigue,stress,and dehydration.also,conditions such as heat illness, from fatigue,stress,and dehydration.also condition such as heat illness,exhaustion,infection such as sinusitis or malaria,and carbon monoxide poisonng from cooking inside the snow covered tent or snow cave my also be the cause.
the individual for rapid AMS are those who ascent rapid or those who sleep at high alltitude abruptly those who had AMS before or those who gain weght or retain fluid or those do not urinate excessively after arrival.obersity and lung desease are probaby risk factor as residence at sea level compared to residence at 5000feet(1,500)or higher.
